Red Hatters travel to Stillwater, Minnesota

By Susan Douglas
Les Rouge Rogues

Les Rouge Rogues, red hatters from Rainy River, have been having loads of fun. On May 13th, twelve ladies travelled to Stillwater, Mn., for a couple days of pampering and shopping. The Rogues stayed at the Just For Me Spa in two lovely cottages on the manicured property. The following day the ladies were treated to massages and various relaxation therapies, such as hot stone massage, facials, manicures and pedicures; to name a few. The ladies spent the evening along the gorgeous St. Croix River watching the paddle boats and new gondola, before heading back for an evening sing song accompanied by Governess of Guitar, (Charlene Gustafson). Thurs. they headed to the Red Hat Store and then on to the Albertville outlet mall where shopping and a light lunch was shared. The girls returned home via Bemidji, tired but happy with their 3rd annual trek.
On Sat. fifteen more ladies motored to Fort Frances to celebrate The Red Hat Society’s 10th anniversary. The ladies gathered at the Rendezvous with chapters from all over Ontario and Minnesota. Several of our ladies brought home lovely gifts and centrepieces following a delightful and entertaining afternoon. Thanks to Queen Bee, (Pattie Anderson ) and her group for all the hard work put into this event.
Tues., May 20th again twenty of our ladies enjoyed “Just Clownin’ Around” at our local Mom’s Restaurant. Our girls came attired in Clown outfits for an amusing evening of games, hosted by Queen La Diva, (Susan), Red Baroness, (Ruth Bynkoski), Duchess Do Little, (Elsie Morrison), and Royal Purple Lady, (Mary Sanderson). Following a wonderful buffet supper the gals were selected for blindfolds and commenced painting their partners faces with clown paint. It was hilarious to watch Lady Snowbird (Ruth Holt), Lady Carolina Rose, (Carolyn Kreger), and Duchess of Dawson, (Jessie Bodnarchuk) get painted. The ladies then created their own desserts using ice cream, cones, spray whipping cream and smarties, turning it into an adorable edible clown. Next the girls played Pin the Nose on the Clown with winners being Lady Eleanora, (Eleanor Wiersema), Lady Round To It, (Elsie Gerula), and Baroness von Schaaf, (Janet Schaaf), taking home the prizes. A game of Bean Bag Toss using tennis balls was the last game of the evening. Capturing the prizes were winning team Lady Knightingale, (Joyce Henry), Lady Lizbeth, ( Nancy Fretter), Lady of Deer Haven, (Jean Lauzon) and Baroness von Schaaf. There were a couple comical readings, one by Lady Carolina Rose entitled “Just the Way it Goes” which dealt with marriage counselling. Another was entitled “Permission to Drive”. Happy Birthday was played on the kazoos and sung to Royal Purple Lady, (Mary Sanderson) and then Red Baroness, (Ruth B.), along with a special gift on her 80th birthday! A presentation with thanks was made to Lady Dolly of La Tea Da, (Dawn Jarvis), for all the work she put into organizing the Stillwater trip for us. This fun evening concluded with draws for the adorable ornamental centrepieces won by Mary S., Dawn J., and Jean L.
