We all lost a very special person Friday
Friday night the area lost a very very special person.
Cherri Strohl (nee Carston) of Baudette was known to so many people both in Rainy River and Baudette as well as many tourists from far and wide that her death has been and will continue to reverberate for some time to come.
I have known her and her husband Derry or "Crim" since I was a teenager. We all hung out at the bowling alley and when I was old enough to go to the bar, Cherri was one of the bartenders at the Baudette Muni. It is there I got to know her as a person and not just a bartender.
She always had a kind word for just about anyone she met and a smile that lit up the room.
She treated her regulars as family and often did kind things for them like sending a card which she would have signed by the other regulars when someone fell ill.
She always remembered my birthday and I am sure countless others.
Cherri never missed an opportunity to come and say hi to her friends, family and customers. She also shared her love for her family with us all, glowing as her kids achieved so much. I think many of us from the "bar family" felt like a part of her real family.
Hitting a deer on a motorcycle Friday she was taken from us and her family. Her husband at last word was in critical condition. I pray he pulls through.
My world now has a huge hole in it... miss you already Cherri.
–Until then, Ken
