Tomatoes in October!
Tomatoes growing in October...
I never would have guessed this spring or this summer that I would still be harvesting tomatoes into October.
It was a cool and wet spring and for that matter a fairly cool summer with few of the nights staying hot... which is what most tomato plants like.
So when they all started producing in mid to late August, a full month later than normal, I just figured like so many other people that we would be getting a small crop and that soon the frost would be upon us and the few tomatoes we had would be a treat.
But here we are, October tomorrow and there is no sign of frost in sight for even the first week or possibly ten days of the month.
So I continue to harvest cherry tomatoes by the bowl full every few days and hope that some more of the beef steak tomatoes will gain some size.
We have been lucky to have a fairly mild September. We can only hope that a mild winter lies ahead of us and our heating bills will be somewhat affordable.
–Until then,
Ken
