Great memories of trick or treating!
Oh to be a kid again!
Friday I spent the evening trick or treating with my future step-children and their mom.
I completely forgot how much fun we used to have as kids making the rounds in Rainy River.
We used to head out right after school in our costumes with a pillow case in hand to hold the treats.
We would hit Main Street first because the businesses always gave out great treats. I remember Mr. (Bill) Matthew telling us we could have a pick of what ever we wanted from his vast candy counter.
Another popular stop was at our teacher's place, Clara Marr, on Fifth Street. She always gave out caramel apples wrapped in wax paper... but you had to be one of the first hundred kids there to get one... after that she gave out nickels.
We would do the town in sections, returning home two or three times to dump out our pillow cases.
We would also meet up with other kids on Tower Road and have apple fights... we weren't allowed to eat the apples for fear of razor blades in them... so instead we through them at each other.
It was fun in Bemidji with the kids... next year we hope to bring them up here and try it here!
–Until then,
Ken
