How precious memories are

As I returned to Rainy River from a brief vacation in Bemidji this past Sunday the very first thing I noticed was how much snow Rainy River had received.
It was at least twice as much as Bemidji had.
Thankfully my best bud had snow-blowed out my sidewalk to the deck. When I walked up to the deck I went "Wow!" Then as I shovelled it off I said, "I can't remember ever having this much snow while I lived at my current address (about 13 years).
Many a folk I have bumped into since Sunday have said things along the same accord. "I can't remember this much snow... since I was a kid.... in 30 or 40 years... etc."
It is funny how we are so connected to our memories and how things like snowfalls from our distant past lay dormant only to be triggered by another snowstorm.
At the Record office on Monday morning a delivery of an Adirondack Chair arrived.
We had not ordered it but instead it had been made by our Publisher from scratch.
This beautiful hand crafted chair will be one of four raffled off at the Alzheimer Dinner to Remember later this month. The money raised from the raffle will be used to help with Alzheimer Society needs in this area. In other words it will help those who can not remember as we can.
The chair itself will likely trigger memories for many of sitting outside at the cabin overlooking the lake or river.
Once won it will create new memories for someone else for years to come.
Memory is a cherished gift we take for granted.
For those suffering with Alzheimers it can be a frightening experience.
So when you see the tickets on sale at local businesses, please take time to remember how lucky you are and to buy a ticket and help those who are not out.
–Until then,
Ken
