Lone song-bird brings warm thoughts

The heat wave that arrived over the weekend was welcomed by everyone including me and my dog.
On Monday he and I finally made it to work on foot for the first time without freezing our keisters off.
As we walked to the Record office up Third St. I heard a lone bird singing in the Elm trees. It really captured my attention.
I had not noticed how quiet the trees have been all winter until I heard that one bird chirping its tune for all to hear.
I guess when we close our windows to keep the cold out we forget how many birds entertain us in the summer months.
Every day just before sunrise the birds start singing the summer away.
Then as fast as summer leaves so do the birds.
A few of them are hardy enough to make it through the cold snaps like we get in this part of the world during the winter, but most go away.
Perhaps that lone bird Monday morning was singing for joy that it was finally not
-40.... or perhaps it was sending a message to other birds that Spring is less than two months away!
Whatever the reason for its tune, it made me think of warmer times ahead!

–Until then,
Ken
