It was my turn to get bumped

I am back!
Thanks for all the support from readers who wondered where Ken's Korner went last week. It made me feel good about doing my bit every week.
Just to explain what happened...
Well as you know there have been a flurry of letters to the editor in recent weeks concerning property taxes and other issues.
I am presented with a certain amount of advertising dollars every week that will run in the paper. Those dollars determine how many pages the paper will be which means I have a certain amount of space for news copy, photos, columns and of course letters to the editor.
On any given week I generally have the odd letter here and there... but when an issue becomes so prominent like the high taxes in Rainy River, I often have to decide which column or other news item I am going to bump from the paper for the week.
Many people spend time every week penning a column for you to read and I feel like their efforts should be at the top of the list when it comes to what will get into the paper.
A letter to the editor should be relatively short and concise. But when they need to be longer to get all points across, I do try and get them in.
That was the case last week and I had to decide what to bump from the paper. It was my turn to give up some space so that you could read the facts in the letters as presented.
–Until then,
Ken
