Profound words from a nine year old
Family, friends, socializing, great food, egg hunts... all part of the Easter weekend experience for so many families. Ours was no exception over the weekend.
We had many great moments over the weekend but one central theme that had us all smiling was the great food and breaking bread together!
Sunday we wrapped up the three day feast with the traditional turkey dinner. It featured the big bird, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, ham, veggies and of course Uncle Bob's famous parmesan buns.
Everything was prepared to perfection. We all anxiously filled our plates with anticipation of the tantalizing food our taste buds were about to enjoy!
After grace we dug in. I heard it from all around the table:
"Yum... the ham is excellent..."
"This is the best stuffing ever..."
"Great gravy!"
"Great buns..."
At first I did not really notice how much everyone was complimenting all the chefs. It was almost a static thing... something probably many families hear around the table at a turkey dinner.
Then in an instant, my future step-daughter, Veronica, who is nine, tuned me in. She said, "With every bite I am two steps closer to being in heaven!"
That to me said it all! I instantly paid much closer attention to the compliments around the table and realized that her eloquence was how we were all feeling at that moment!
–Until then,
Ken
