On the cusp of better weather
Has spring officially sprung?
According to the calendar it was official March 21st... but in the month of April we certainly had a hard time shaking the feeling that winter was still lurking in the shadows as many days featured snow and many more had cold temperatures.
The past two weekends I have been busy doing yard work between events I had to cover and yesterday I felt like I had finished 90% of the spring yard work and other chores around the house.
However, things like tilling the garden will have to wait some more as the ground is still too wet. In fact my back yard is still a mucky mess and needs to dry out so I can rake up all the wood chips, leaves and other stuff making it a disaster area.
Then the trees and perennials seem to be way behind. Buds are big on the trees but have yet to pop open.
On Monday my first daffodils opened, about two weeks later than usual.
I think the biggest problem this year is that it refuses to stay warmer at night. Day time temperatures have been moderating in the past week or so but night time it was been dropping to or slightly above freezing.
If the temps start to come up at night I think spring will spring out at us on the trees and in the flower gardens.
I have seen bees and hornets out in small numbers and saw my first ant on Sunday. Usually they are the last to come out so if that is a good sign then I would say we are on the cusp of the weather finally smartening up!
–Until then,
