We should be proud
When you are a kid people always ask you what you want to be when you grow up?
Of course when we were kids the common answers were a fireman, policeman, doctor or astronaut.
How many of us actually became what we wanted to be (back then) when we grew up is probably quite small.
This week I, a newspaper editor who wanted to be a teacher way back when, was reading a media release that came in by email. It was one of 167 emails I received since Thursday. When I get that many emails, with the bulk of them being news releases; many of which have little to do with the Rainy River area, I quickly skim them. Do they get tossed or saved for possible inclusion in the Record?
I was on about email 120 when something caught my eye in the release. The release came from Toronto. It was from the Ontario College of Pharmacists and featured a quote from its President Tracey Wiersema.
Who would have known that Archie and Eleanor Wiersema's daughter Tracey would grow up to be President of the Ontario College of Pharmacists! Wow!
It never ceases to amaze me where people from the Rainy River area end up! I am not sure Tracey wanted to be a pharmacist from her childhood but I am sure she never envisioned becoming President of the OCP when she started her career.
The community should be proud of the so many of its citizens have gone on to make a difference provincially, nationally and around the world.
–Until then,
Ken
