Superstitious bunch

We are such a superstitious bunch (myself included)!
As the weather forecasters told us of an impending heat wave beginning Tues and running most of the week, people everywhere held their breath.
I heard radio announcers Monday morning expressing disbelief that it would be coming.
I had a comment on facebook saying, "Ssshh! Don't jinx it," when I posted something about it finally getting nice and summer like out there.
On my way to get the mail Monday at lunch another person refused to say the "R" (rain) word for fear of it turning from really good to bad again.
Then another fella blurted out that "R" word and then an "S" (snow) word out in the street and everyone within earshot shuddered!
I guess it is hard to not be superstitious. After all the weathermen and women have been telling us all summer it will get warmer soon and then it did not.
Perhaps it was someone stepping on spiders all summer that caused the cool and intermittently rainy weather most of the spring and summer.
Or perhaps not enough kids sang "Rain rain go away! Come again another day!"
Whatever the superstition may be, many people believe they should not jinx a good thing.
