Being a fan is fantastic!

Being a sports fan can open many doors that normally would remain closed.
Fanaticism is where I believe the term Fan is derived from and when you are a die hard fan you can understand what that is all about.
Normally fanatical behaviours are frowned upon, but when you are a sports fan you can do all kinds of things and people either join you or laugh at you.
Things like painting one's self with a team's colours and going to the game like that. Or yelling at the top of one's lungs at the television set (like they can really hear you).
More laid back fans often refrain from the painting of their faces and bodies, but will wear team apparel like hats and jerseys... even if the team colours are gawd awful!
Being a fan also allows friends to disagree whenever their teams play each other and later remain friends (Leaf and Hab fans know this one well).
Over the weekend NFL football restarted for the season and in our case we were garbed in Vikings purple and gold (no body paint though).
The neigbours down the road had about 30 people over and just about all of them wore Vikings colours.
My cousin in Winnipeg is a New Orleans Saints fan (having given up on the Bombers this season) he texted me every time his team scored. We agree that we each think our team is better than the other even though they won't meet each other this season. We even put a friendly wager on the season.... oh yes that is another thing that fans tend to do... gamble on their teams!
Being a fan is exciting and fun. It is part of who we are and gives us something outside the bounds of normal every day activities to cheer for.
–Until then,
Ken
