Size matters in Rainy River!

You have probably heard the saying, "Size matters!"
Well during the last two weeks of September, size does matter in Rainy River!
This past weekend it was clearly evident by the event's name, that size does matter. The Rainy River Valley "Giant" Pumpkin Festival, has for 15 years celebrated green thumbs from around the area. Green thumbs that have grown many a pumpkin tipping the scales at as much as 1,173 lbs. worth!
For a while the big ones seemed to be the only ones that really mattered, with the top pumpkin fetching $1,000 cash!
Then a couple of years ago the festival added nearest to 100 lbs., 200 lbs., up to 500 lbs. to encourage other sized entries. Again size does matter!

This coming weekend there will be a few stories about the ones that got away, but in the end it will be the size of the fish that get weighed in that will matter!
Some anglers have reported that this warmer weather of late has seen little production of bigger walleyes in the Rainy River. Colder water and temperatures are needed.
So even though many little ones are being caught, it may be in the end, the baskets of several little ones and perhaps a big one here and there that will win the 11th Annual Rainy River Walleye Tournament. That size factor will earn one team $15,000 in cash!

–Until then,
Ken
