Pumpkin carving today

Ooey, gooey and slimy!
That is the best way to describe what the insides of a pumpkin feel like!
As a kid I remember every year we carved jack-o-lanterns. Over the weekend I helped one of my future step-kids do just that.
I had forgotten how icky the insides of a pumpkin can be. But even though it was yucky, the final results are always worth it!
I had to fish the seeds out of the slime so that we could roast them later.... what would pumpkin carving be without a snack!
Veronica proceeded to show me how to tape a pattern on the pumpkin and make the dotted pattern with a tool so that we could carve some really elaborate masterpieces.
When we were done she had a ghostly goblin on hers and I had an evil looking bat on mine! It was really cool looking.
However, the tools that came with the stencils were very poorly made. The knives, if they can be called that were very flimsy and by the end of our carving experience two of the four were broken.
When we were kids we used kitchen knives, albeit our final jack-o-lanterns were quite basic with triangle eyes, nose and pointed teeth mouths. I guess there is a trade off. But it really sucks to have to buy a new carving kit every year... especially when the kitchen knives never break doing this annual task.

–Until then,
