Things that we can't control

Predictability...
It is something we all try to do. We try and predict what the weather will do. We try to predict so many things that when the unpredictable happens we are often left in a state of helplessness as we can not control it.
Over the holidays the unpredictable seemed to be the story of most people's lives.
The first big unplanned event was a major snow storm. First word had it dumping a few inches here and there, but as it grew in size it soon became very clear that we were all going to get a major dumping of the white stuff.
For us it meant some nail biting driving by my honey and her kids and my sister and her honey. They arrived just as the storm was settling in and came from Bemidji and Winnipeg respectively.
Plans for my cousin and his kids to come on Christmas Day were put off for two days and on Boxing Day my brother and his honey opted not to come due to the storm.
Then this past Sunday as the holidays were winding down the power went off for several hours! It did not take long for homes to grow chilly inside. Then just as they were warming up again, the power went off again in the morning. That meant this edition of the Record was going to be two to three hours behind schedule all day on Monday. If only I could have predicted all these circumstances maybe we could have moved Christmas and production of the paper up a couple of days!
–Until then,
Ken
