Such strong support for a good cause

It is just amazing how generous and supportive our community and the district for that matter are whenever there is a cause needing help.
Over the weekend, despite the horrid day of freezing rain, sleet and later snow, people still ventured out to the legion in Rainy River and supported the Third Annual Linda Johnston Memorial Alzheimer Dinner to Remember.
Some came just to donate money via the penny table and other raffles. Others came to do that and eat a delicious roast beef dinner.
Prior to the event just as much support was evident when Marlene McNally began seeking donations for the best penny table to grace the event yet! Businesses both locally and from across the area donated generously. Individuals also came forward with donations for the penny table. Marlene said she was overwhelmed with how many businesses and people wanted to be a part of helping the cause.
Then there are the volunteers that help out. Some have been part of the event since it was first created seven years ago and others were new. They are so supportive, whether it is helping set up, sell tickets, work the door, cook, delivering meals, serving food, etc.
There were also others who offered to help even though all the jobs were taken. To have a waiting list of volunteers also speaks volumes about the cause.
When my Auntie Linda started this seven years ago, I am sure she never envisioned it getting stronger and stronger every year.
She would have been and I am proud of all who made it happen and who support it.
–Until then, Ken
