Shack owner may have triggered new rules

The few can spoil things for the many.
Last week the river opened up and along with the ice went someone’s ice fishing shack. Thirty years ago that might have been acceptable considering how badly the mills up stream were poluting the Rainy River. But times have changed and no one is allowed to pollute the river.
Mills face hefty fines for doing so and so do anglers it caught. However, if the law is unable to identify who the shack belongs to, the culprit gets away with it.
Until now this area has been one of the last not to be regulated by the government when it comes to placing and removing ice fishing shacks. But with incidents so public as last week’s it will be hard for the government not to implement a registration system.
If they move forward with these rules, that already in place south of the border, they should look at making everyone get their shacks off by March 1st as well.
