A great front page week!

If only every week was like this one!
Most weeks I know exactly what is going to go on the front page of the paper. Usually it is a story of importance that just stands out above the rest and usually there is only one of them per week.
Not this week. While the accomplishment of Courtney Hansen was above the rest of the pack in newsworthiness, there were several others that were close.
New owners of the grocery store is great news that I am sure all area citizens are interested in.
The railway has always been a big part of Rainy River's fabric so when two long time railroaders retire that is also front page news.
The opening of the new Covenant Church has been a story in the making for half a decade. The first service there and the last one at the old one is also a front page worthy story.
Some weeks I have this dilemma... what should I put on the front page?
Then coupled with that, the fact that town council news almost always goes on the front page, and the answer is not easy.
While the Hansen story trumped the rest, the others all could very well have been on the front page this week.
Had a major fire occurred, or something of that nature, all of them would likely not made the front page.
Weeks like this are a blessing. Especially in a small town where there often is not as much newsy things going on as in the larger centres.
Having too much to choose from is not a bad thing. By having so many front page stories spread throughout the paper, you the reader are getting a great deal of bang for your buck!
The next week is already starting to take shape with NORWOSSA soccer coming here later in the week and a couple of other items already on the burner.
It too may be a great front page week too! Only time will tell!

–Until then,
Ken
