Soaked to the bone

The original floorboards on the main level of the Rainy River Recreation Centre were exposed for the first time in decades as all the tile flooring on them had to be sent to the landfill after they were under at least an inch of water Easter weekend.

104 Years Old!

Clinton Park, center, turned 104 last Wednesday at the Rainy River Health Centre. He was born in Rainy River the year it incorporated, 1904. A party was thrown for him in the commons room of the Long Term Care wing of the health centre. Along with friends several family members joined him in celebrating. They are, left to right, his daughter Deanne Sokie of Selkirk, MB., his wife Doris Park, birthday boy Clinton Park, his daughter Carolee Hogue and her husband Rene Hogue.

New Librarian

Sheila McIntosh (nee McKenzie) returned to Rainy River after more than two decades away. She is now the Libarian and C.E.O. at the Rainy River Public Libary.

Rainy River Junior Curlers wrapped up their season on Sunday with their annual Funspiel and Potluck dinner. The entire club took time to pose for their annual group shot before having an awards presentation and supper. Preventing falls

18 seniors from Rainy River have been meeting at the Rainy River Seniors' Activity Depot every Thursday since early January to do Tai Chi in an effort to help prevent falls by developing greater strength and balance.

Record wins

The Rainy River Record received word Monday that it had placed 2nd in the Canadian Community Newspaper Association's National Better Newspapers Competition for Best Spot News Photo taken by Managing Editor Ken Johnston. The Record competed against papers with four times its circulation in this category. The winning photo, of the tragic farm fire at the Herman Krahn residence, appeared in the April, 24, 2007 Record on the front page.
