RR fastball team trounces Big Island

Pitcher Murray Armstrong lead his team to a shut-out against Big Island as
Rainy River Legion netted its first victory in the 2004 RR Dist. Fastball
season last Tuesday in Rainy River.
Armstrong struck out two in the first inning and stranded two.
In the bottom of the inning Donnie Gall hit a solo homer to put Rainy River
on the score board.
It was three up, three down in the second for Big Island as Armstrong
pitched perfectly.
In the bottom of the inning Marty Armstrong lead off with a single. He was
advanced to second when Walter Wagner hit a single. Wagner was then thrown
out at second on a force play when Donnie Jonasson poked one for a single.
Marty advanced to third. Andreas Runesson then struck out. With one out
Mitch Gouliquer stepped up to the plate and hit a three run homer. After two
RR lead 4-0.
It was three up three down again in the third for Big Island. RR picked up
two more with Wagner and Runesson scoring to put them out front 6-0.
In the fourth Big Island started off with a single. However Armstrong struck
the next player out, then allowed another single and then finished them off
with two more strike outs.
In the bottom of the inning Murray Armstrong scored off a double when his
brother Marty hit a double and picked up a R.B.I.
Three up, three down was the tune again the top of the fifth. Then in the
bottom of the inning RR let loose scoring five runs. Runesson, Gouliqeur,
Gall, and Murray Armstrong all scored. John Kirkrude hit a homer to cap
things off at 12-0.
In the sixth one Big Island player was stranded, two struck out and one flew
out. RR added two more in the bottom of the inning when Gouliquer hit a
single and Gall brought him in with a two run homer.
It was three up three down in the top of the seventh with RR winning 14-0.
The previous Thursday RR lost to Big Grassy 10-8.
