RRHS honours its best

Ken Johnston

Many Rainy River High School students received accolades for their academic and athletic achievements at the annual awards banquet held last Thursday for the 2003-04 year.
For Matt Neilson it was a particularly rewarding night, even if he was not able to attend. While he was away at Warren, MN. working on qualifying for sections in track and field he was awarded the Principal’s Leadership Award, named Male Athlete of the Year, received the prestigious Gold Jacket Award and received a certificate for being on the honour roll all three reporting periods.
Female Athlete of the Year was Jaime Vandenbrand. She was also decorated with Most Sporting and Most Valuable Player awards for Senior Girls Basketball, and Most Valuable Player in Sr. Girls Volleyball. Vandenbrand also received a certificate for making the honour roll during one reporting period.
Also receiving a Gold Jacket Award for dedication in a sport over at least two years was Ryan McInerney. He was honoured for his dedication to the RRHS/SCAP soccer team and was highly touted for the award by his hockey coach (LoW Bears).
