Dryden’s Zirka Dancers to perform at Rainy River Homecoming, Sunday, Aug 1
Rainy River’s Homecoming Celebration has so much going on you want to plan carefully to insure you take in your favourite activities. For instance, Family Entertainment Afternoon on Sunday, August 1, starts at 12 noon in the Big Tent with something for everyone.
One featured group is Dryden’s Zirka Dancers. Formed in 1988 this Ukrainian dance group has 30 members ranging in age from 7 to 18 years.
They feature very colourful and unique costumes and dances from the Poltave, Hutzul, Transcarpathian and Boukovinian regions.
The Prevete, a welcoming dance where bread and salt are presented to the audience and the Brezenyanka, a wedding celebration, are very traditional. Their finale, the Hopak, is an energetic dance full of challenging solos guaranteed to burn up more than a few perogies.
The group has performed widely, not only in Dryden but also in the U.S., at Dauphin’s Canadian Ukrainian National Festival and many dance competitions.
Make sure you mark your agenda to enjoy the Zirka Dancers, and energetic group that love to perform and keep the spirit and culture alive for us all.
So keep your eye out for the final Homecoming Events Calendar coming out in July and get rested and ready. So many choices, so little time.
