Roy Johnson, 84

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Roy Johnson (formerly of Redditt, ON) at the age of 84 in Winnipeg on September 5th 2010 with family by his side.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jocelyn of 22 years, children Rick (Lynn), Sherrie (Roy), Doug (Brandi) and grandchildren Ryan, Trisha (Joel), Holly, Chris, Jordan, Mackenzie, sisters Ruth Rogoza, Shirley Gadd, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley of 32 years in 1985, parents August and Lilah, brothers Wilf, Wes, Charlie, and sister Grace.
Roy was born and raised in Blue Township, Ontario (Rainy River District).
During his working years Roy took on a wide variety of occupations such as wood-cutter, carpenter, even milkman. His longer term employment was with the CNR, OCA, and then the Kenora Board of Education until retirement in 1988.
Roy greatly enjoyed times with friends at the Redditt Legion or HideAway. He valued the friendships he made during his lifetime and was always happy to help out others and looked forward to having friends drop in for a visit.
While with the CNR Roy met Shirley Baylis and after their wedding made homes in Fort Frances and then Winnipeg. In 1962 Roy moved the family to Redditt and by himself built the family home. In 1980 they moved into Kenora where they were the first superintendents of Parkview Apartments.
Roy married Jocelyn Bruce in 1988 and together they enjoyed retirement by travelling to Singapore, Trinidad, and throughout the United States and Canada. Closer to home they took frequent trips to Winnipeg to the casino and to visit with friends and family. While at home he enjoyed a peaceful life overlooking Kenora Lake.
More recently Roy and Jocelyn moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family.
A special thanks to doctors and staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, numerous Winnipeg hospitals, and especially those at the St. Norbert Personal Care home during his final days.
A celebration of Roy’s life was held at 12:00 pm on Saturday September 11 at Brown’s Funeral Home 429 Second St. S. Kenora, ON. Interment followed in the Redditt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Roy to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
