Movie theater on schedule for September 1st opening

The new theater is going up as planned, and we should be seeing movies in it this September. Jim Thompson has done a great job keeping the theater on schedule. Local contractors Mollberg, Frohreich and Larson have also done an excellent job, and Stoskopf Readi Mix got us off to a good start. Everyone involved has done what needed to be done. John Dodds and Bill Mouw have done special work to keep us on schedule. Bill, for example, had to pick up the white brick a couple of weeks ago.

Andy Miller will be spearheading the yardwork (landscaping) as an Eagle Scout project. He is the organizer, not the sole worker on this project and will need our help. Please give Andy some help if he contacts you.

Fundraising has not ended. Thanks to the 4th of July crew of Stuart Noble, Karolyn Ketchum, Nancy Wholrabe, Sherry Valley and the crew from Wells Fargo Bank for all their work. Bill and Bette Mouw are out “pushing” tickets on the 4 wheeler drawing to be held at the Lake of the Woods County Fair on August 19th. Nelson’s Store and Karen’s Place at Birchdale have done an excellent job selling tickets, and we think they are now on their 6th and 7th booklets of tickets in that community. We need to sell all 3,000 tickets, so don’t be afraid to buy more than one.

One of the best fundraising activities continues to be your garbage... at least that aluminum cans in your garbage. The recycling center will be happy to credit your cans to the Baudette Community Foundation account. Remember, the more we save, the less we have to borrow for our community theater.

The “Pennies for Popcorn” project has extended to Rainy River in a big way with some substantial contributions. Both the Wells Fargo Bank in Baudette and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Rainy River have had individuals bring in pailsful of pennies. The Clemenston Lutheran Church Sunday School brought in a large donation for the popcorn machine as well. A Baudette couple sent in a donation for the popcorn machine in recognition of Ron Omerza, Marge Rognlie and Linda Hansen for given so much to the children of this community. Very classy!

Advertisements for the manager(s) of the theater should be out this week.

Progress continues at a hectic pace, and fundraising continues. We appreciate the effort of Ruth and Otto Lee in helping the local garden club with its fundraisers for the new theater. We will soon have a beautiful movie theater in downtown Baudette.
