Anita Olson crowned Pumpkin Champion of Bergland

The First Annual Bergland Pumpkin Festival, is going to grow on people!
Organizer Ron Lemmon was very pleased on Monday when he told the Record via phone that, "We had 46 pumpkins weigh in! That is really good for a first year!"
The one day event took place at the Bergland Hall this past Saturday and began with weigh-ins at 10 a.m.
By the time they had closed the biggest pumpkin of the day was that of Anita Olson, from Bergland. It was 410 lbs. She won the adult division and $300.
Rounding out the top three was Adrienne Olson, 385 lbs.-$200 and Fred Gate 266 lbs.-$100.
Kids 12 & under (under 20 lbs. pumpkins)
1st-Allison Lemmon-$50 and trophy
2nd-Justin Presinger-$30
3rd-Dillon Presinger-$20
Kids under 12 but over 20 lbs. pumpkins
1st-Lucas Olson-281 lbs.-$75
2nd-Emma Olson-249 lbs.-$50
3rd-Kira Olson-229 lbs.-$25
Junior Division (ages 13-18)
1st-Skylar Arpin-149 lbs.-$100
2nd-Adam Johnson-112 lbs. $50
3rd-Camille Johnson-85 lbs-$25
Winning the Pie eating contest was Adam Johnson (ages 9-16). In the ages 4-8 division Camille Gill won. They had to eat an entire pie the fastest.
Smallest Pumpkin went to Robin Johnson
Receiving the Skunk Award was Gerry Marchuk for the smallest adult pumpkin-$25 lbs. He received the Skunk Trophy and two giant pumpkin seeds so he can grow a big pumpkin next year.
Best Pumpkin dessert went to Lilly Anderson.
Best Decorated Pumpkin went to Erika Rencher.
Sunshine Bischoff, 7, won the guess the pumpkin weight. She guessed 202 lbs. and it weighed 210 lbs.
Oddest Vegetable went to Sue Lemmon.
Bob Johnson won the tallest sunflower.
Best Decorated vegetable went to Eva Lemmon. It was a parsnip.
Lilly Anderson had the Biggest Potato.
Guess the Seeds was won by Emily Anderson. She guessed 245 and there were 250 pumpkin seeds in the jar.
A special award was presented to Dillon Presinger. Ron Lemmon knew that Presinger had won a trophy in the RR pumpkin festival last year but that his family's home burned down and his trophy was lost. "I spoke to the trophy place and they donated a new one for him."
Lemmon was very pleased with the way the event went over and said, "We are definitely going to do this again next year!"
