RR Red Hatters visit Baudette museum
By Susan Douglas
RR Red Hat Society
Tues. Sept 14th, Les Rouge Rogues of Rainy River ventured across the border for their 1st of the season book club. Fourteen members turned out wearing Western Regalia for their Rendezvous.
The ladies shared their latest readings and exchanged books. “Still Alice” by Lisa Genova was described as very good. ‘It’s the true story of a woman who gets the early onset of Alzheimer’s.’ “Charlie St. Cloud” by Ben Sherwood ‘is a fictitious story about a younger brother who’s killed in an accident. The older surviving brother has a gift of meeting up with him to share activities such as baseball. This book is being made into a major motion picture.’ “Sophie’s World” by Jostein Gaarder is on the NY Times best seller list. ‘It’s about a little girl and ties into all the famous philosophers and is recommended as a good book.’ Other books read were an easy reading “Fortune’s Rock” by Anita Shreve; “Wolf Hall” by Hilary Mantel, (along the line of The Tudors); “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, (Sweden’s wealthiest family); “War” by Sabastian Younger, (American troops in Afghanistan, true story and real eye opener); ‘Stolen Innocence’ by Lisa Wahl, ‘Cane River, The Shack, and The Book of Negroes.’ Keep on reading and sharing girls! Our next book club meeting and luncheon will be at the new spa in Baudette!
Following a wonderful luncheon, the ladies toured the new spa next to Jerri’s on Main Street. It was Baudette’s Unique Health Spa & Fitness Centre’s grand opening. The red hatters tried out exercise equipment, had a tour of the spa area and learned about Lifestyle Changes.
The next stop was the Museum in Spooner where the ladies posed in front of the old Rainy River Hotel wooden bar. The museum has lots of information of the fire of 1910 and the bridge opening, along with many antique articles and a separate building of old farm equipment. The ladies enjoyed the beautiful afternoon and plan to return to both sites again in Oct. The museum is hosting a public event Oct. 7th when they will fire up the old printing press to hand out anniversary papers covering the fire of 1910, among other celebrations.
The red hatters were off Friday, Sept. 24th, for their overnight adventure “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” in Mahnomen, Mn. and shopping in Bemidji. The ladies enjoyed
Bobby Vee and the Chiffons, as well as Brian Hyland’s 50’s/ 60’s rock and roll music.
Our group took home two major prizes as well as three of us winning other prizes at the
Sat. event featuring the Geritol Frolics and Highschool Jazz Band.
Our next out of town trip is to Branson, Ms., October 17th-23rd, 2010. Our Red Hat Society Charter runs from Aug. 12th 2010-2011, which means if you haven’t paid your Fun Fees you are risking missing out on a whole lot of fun! Ladies save your red/purple items for a future clothing/gift exchange. See you at our Costume Party at Rosealie’s the last Tues. of Oct.!
