New owners to move motel to Manitoba

Rumours that the Roadrunner Motel in Rainy River has been sold, have been circulating for the past couple of weeks.
Many people were hoping it would be purchased by a local interest and be reopened. However, Monday morning Councillor Gord Armstrong said he spoke to the realtor that day and it has been sold.
“However it is bad news,” said Armstrong. “Apparently someone bought it and is going to try and move it to a small town in western Manitoba.”
Armstrong said that there had been talk of trying to organize a local co-op to buy it over the summer but other parties said they were going to buy it locally so the co-op never got off the ground.
“This is sad news for Rainy River,” said Armstrong.
The motel has been closed for more than a year as has The Gausthaus and the Rainy River Hotel. The only rooms left in town are the CN Hotel.
There was no word when the move of the building will take place.
