Our Lady of the Way School officially opens new building

With a whole lot of free elbow grease, some fundraising and funding from the Northwest District Catholic School Board, a new structure was build at Our Lady of the Way School this spring.
Half of it is a garage for storage and the other half is an outdoor picnic shelter which may double as a classroom when the weather is nice.
School principal David Sharp said the project started about three years ago with an idea. Initially they were looking at building two storage sheds, but that was changed to the current 24X48 building.
The school board allocated $10,000 to the project, the school council $1,000 and the school fundraised the rest of the money. The Knights of Columbus, under the direction of Walter Swerbus of Rainy River provided the elbow grease free of charge.
Last Wednesday the entire school gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open it. Super Intendant of Business for the School Board, Chris Howarth, was on hand to help with the cutting ceremony.
Principal Sharp thanked Mr. Howarth and the board and all who made the project a reality. He said the next thing will be to side the building and get some picnic tables for under it.
He expects that when the weather is nice that some classes will be held there and that the community will make good use of it at functions like ball tournaments.
