The Fort Frances OPP is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing teen from the Fort Frances area. Kathryn K. Chmilewski, age 15 from Kapuskasing, was staying at the Training and Learning Centre in Watten Township when she left the facility on July 1st at approximately 12:45 p.m. She is described as standing 5’3” tall, 122 pounds, brown shoulder length straight hair that may have blond highlights, brown eyes, medium complexion, wearing black metal frame square eyeglasses and has a cross tattoo on her left upper bicep. She may have been wearing white Nike running shoes with a pink swoosh at the time of her disappearance. The investigation has lead police to believe she may be traveling to Ottawa where she has previously resided. Anyone with information regarding this youth is asked to call the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). The Fort Frances OPP conducted a RIDE initiative in the Rainy River District between July 1st and 4th targeting Criminal Code traffic offences and Liquor Licence Act offences related to vehicles and vessels. There were 147 vehicles checked with 5 persons being charged with Impaired Driving offences, one 12 hour suspension issued, 2 Liquor Licence charges and 2 Highway Traffic Act charges issued. The OPP will be continuing these RIDE initiatives throughout the remainder of the year.
On June 30th at approximately 11:55 p.m. a single motor vehicle rollover occurred on Hwy 602 approximately 7 km west of Fort Frances. A vehicle was eastbound at a high rate of speed when it lost control and skidded off the roadway into the south ditch. Th vehicle then rolled over twice. The lone occupant and driver of the vehicle, Ryan Armstrong 23 of London, was uninjured and has subsequently been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On July 3rd the Fort Frances OPP received a report of a male subject under water at the Seven Oaks area of Pither’s Point Park. The OPP, Fire Department and ambulance were on scene within minutes and a 34 year old man from Lac La Croix was pulled from the water. The man was transported to La Verendrye Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
