E-books now available from RR Library

By Michael Dawber
Assist. Librarian

This holiday season, you can plug in to e-books at the Rainy River Public Library!
What’s an e-book? It’s an electronic book you can use on your computer, phone, PDA, or special e-book reader.
Each e-book has the same content as a printed book. It just lives in cyberspace.
You can now get e-books through our on-line download service, called Overdrive.
Just go to downloadcentre.library.on.ca. You will need your library card number and PIN to sign in.
There are over 900 titles waiting for you to try on a seven-day loan!
Don’t forget: Overdrive has more than 4,000 downloadable audio books for you, too.
And speaking of audio books, did you know the Rainy River Public
Library now has talking books from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind?
The library is thrilled to be a partner with the CNIB in bringing you talking books.
We have 55 titles on hand, and look forward to receiving 50 more every six months.
We even have the CNIB talking book machines – called DAISY players – available to borrow.
To use our DAISY players, you just need to register with the CNIB and fill out a brief form at the library.
You qualify if you have a sight issue, a problem understanding regular text (like dyslexia) or cannot physically use printed books.
With the holidays just around the corner, the library reminds you that we will be closing at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 23.
We are then closed from Friday, December 24, to Tuesday, December 28.
We will also be closed Friday, December 31, and New Year’s Day.
The library book return will remain open through the holidays.
If you are waiting for a book through interlibrary loan, there may be a few extra days’ wait.
The staff and board of the Rainy River Public Library wish you all the best for the holidays and a prosperous 2011!
