Great message in Thunder Bay

Letter to the editor,
I recently attended a briefing session in Thunder Bay about the Living Legacy Trust’s new report on Value added forestry opportunities in Ontario, and came away impressed by the Trust’s work. It was a pleasure to see another organization advocating valued added wood products and reiterating the Woodworks! message that the Ontario Forest Industry has almost limitless opportunities to increase the innovative use of wood thereby helping the industry diversify its product mix.
Technology and research are advancing the use of new wood products, proving wood is economical, energy efficient, as strong and durable as other products and an environmentally sound material. The future of our forest industry is in the remanufacturing of our resources, creating jobs and wealth through the production of value-added wood products. It will also allow Ontario producers to avoid tariffs and quota associated with the Softwood Lumber agreement.
All MPP’s, MP’s community leaders, educators and decision makers involved in the production and use of wood products across Ontario should visit www.livinglecacytrust.org read the report and commit to taking action to help Ontario become a global leaders in the value added wood products sector.
