Nordin rink is one step away from the Brier!

For the second year in a row Tim Nordin of Dawson Township is one step away from the Brier.
Over the weekend Nordin skipped a mens team at the Region 1 Playdowns in Keewatin, Ont.
He and his teammates, Mitch Seguin-Third, Adam Bolen-Second and Travis Showalter-lead competed against four other teams in round-robin play.
Nordin’s team was solid in play and defeated two teams from Sioux Lookout, a team from Kenora and one from Red Lake to end the competition on top 4-0.
Nordin said the playoff structure is different than years ago. Instead of smaller zones, the playoffs are done in regions. “We are region 1, which takes in all the way up to Red Lake and us down here,” said Nordin on Monday.
Every curling club can send as many teams as they like, but only one travelled from this area to compete. Nordin and co. are curling out of Stratton’s rink this year.
He has pretty much the same team this year as last, with the exception of Adam Bolen. He has replaced Mike Badiuk in the line up.
Last year Nordin’s rink travelled to Sudbury for the Northern Ontario Provincials. They finished 2-9 there, but Nordin said that was deceiving. “Six of those games we lost were decided by one rock.”
The win in Keewatin secured them a place at this year’s Northern’s. They are in Thunder Bay and begin Feb. 6th and last for a week. Nordin is hopeful that they will do well there this year and if they are able to win, they will go to the Brier representing Northern Ontario.
The foursome’s expenses to the competition are not covered by any organization, so he said they will likely have to do some fundraising. Anyone wishing to help them out can contact him weekdays at Lowes Lumber in Sleeman (852-3218).
