Pine River 4–H

The Pine River 4-H Club just completed the “Chocolate” project. Club leaders are Kim Desserre and Susan Irvine. Club members are Taylor Vlotaros, Jordan, Kurt and Morgan Desserre, Evan Govier, Elijah and Rebecca Zimmerman. At meeting 1, on December 21, we talked about kitchen rules. Next we practiced proper measuring and made 2 different kinds of cookies.
At the second meeting, on December 28, we made 4 different kinds of brownies to compare. We tasted different kinds of chocolate, like 90% Cacao, Chili Chocolate and Milk Chocolate. We learned about chocolate in main courses. We made Bean Mole and Ham Mole.
The third meeting, on January 8, was our candy making meeting. We made chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows and cherries. We also made turtles and pretzel turtles.
At meeting 4, on January 15, we played Chocolate Jeopardy and made 2 different cakes. Our Achievement Activity is to have a chocolate tasting at 4-H Awards Night on March 4. I liked this project because it is a fun way to learn.
