A teenage perspective
Dear Editor,
Many people in Canada and the United States watched Super Bowl XXXVIII and were shocked when Justin Timberlake accidentally revealed Janet Jackson’s right breast during the half time show Sunday evening. Many where outraged and disgusted, some others, like me, didn’t really give a hoot because we didn’t have time to watch it. And then there is that other much smaller group that well, “ loved it!”
But like most of these kinds of things, there is going to be an investigation. This is of course understandable. I read in Thunder Bay’s Chronicle Journal that the FCC chief Michael Powell said “Our nation’s children, parents and citizens deserve better” For what? An accident! Justin ripping off part of Janet’s top could have for some odd reason been deliberate, which I highly doubt. But how many times have you just pretended to do something but it some how happened? You didn’t mean to do it but you did. Who hasn’t? Right?
So now because of a possible accident this whole strange movement known as The Parents Television Council is trying give hit shows like CSI a bad rap because of it’s graphic scenes of sex, violence, dead bodies and what not.
Let me say this, if you don’t want your innocent children to watch such graphic shows that portray real life occurrences take this into consideration. Although showing the public the not so good side of today’s society, it takes a lot these days to entertain even the simplest of minds. So if you don’t want your children to watch such graphic shows then just don’t turn on the TV when such shows are on the television. But chances are, knowing my younger counterparts, one way or another they are going to see these shows. Unless, of course, you lock them in the basement for the rest of their natural born lives. Which you should never do so don’t get any ideas. I discussed this issue with about 5 team-mates who are on my local basketball team and we all came to the same conclusion. We think that today’s programming should stay on the air and stay that way it is. Any questions?
