There was no council meeting held Monday evening due to the fact that there was no quorum.
Councillor Gord Armstrong is away, Mayor Deb Ewald was ill and unable to make it and Councillor Ashley Stamler had told the Clerk she would be in attendance but failed to show up.
Only councillors Brent Anderson and Larry Armstrong were present.
Under procedural rules those present must wait until 30 minutes after the set start time of the meeting before the meeting is called. According to the same rules the meeting is then adjourned until the next regular council meeting which is the second Monday of the month.
On Monday's agenda were several important items:
•A motion to purchase insurance for the town from Northwest Insurance at a cost of $49,296.00 plus tax.
•A motion to pass a bylaw for an interim tax levy.
•A motion to pass a new Miscellaneous User Fees Bylaw which would see all fees with the exception of water and sewer increased by 3%.
•A motion effective Feb. 15, 2011 to release Steward McNally from his duties as Rainy River Fire Chief.
•A motion to have Gerald Armstrong provide fire chief services from Feb. 15, 2011 to Feb. 15, 2015.
•A motion to agree to pay half the cost of a new heater for the curling club's ice surface.
•A motion to approve the nominations of Gordon Prost, Gill Stamler, Geraldine White, Vernonica Nordberg and Linda Armstrong to the Rainy River Public Library Board.
•A motion to donate $100 to the Library for Family Day activities.
•A motion to postpone the next regular monthly meeting of council to March 22, 2011 as many council members can not make the actual meeting date of Mar. 14th.
•A motion to pass a bylaw to prohibit smoking in buildings and vehicles under the jurisdiction of the Town of Rainy River.
•A motion to purchase a dental cart at a cost of $2,150.00 including taxes.
