Major break saw entire water system shut down in RR for several hours

Late Wednesday afternoon water services were restored to the community of Rainy River after a major water main break earlier in the day forced the shut down of the entire town’s water supply.
The line broke near the communities water treatment plant. “It was a bad one,” said town office employee Erika Rencher. “It was sucking all the water out of the plant so they shut down the plant.”
Crews worked diligently all day to repair the line on the 100 block of Second St. Late in the afternoon water was turned back on but for the first few hours only a trickle came out of the taps.
Mayor Deb Ewald said they were experiencing some difficulties at the water plant but hoped to have it rectified by morning. Later that evening the issues were resolved and water pressures returned to normal.
However, a boil water advisory was instituted as soon as the service was restored. Until water samples get the clearance that they are safe residents are encouraged to boil their tap water for at least one minute.
