Thinking of you cards sent out

Lake of the Woods Branch of the Women’s Institutes met on Feb. 9th with 6 members and guest JoAnn Moen present. The meeting was opened with reciting the Mary Stewart Collect.
Roll Call was volunteer hours with a reminder to tally them up for the April meeting.
January meeting minutes and financial statement were accepted as read. There was no correspondence and no bills to pay this time.
Our “Thinking of You” committee reported on the cards sent out and phone calls made.
Pioneer Museum report: A Heritage Cook Book is an ongoing project; plans to renovate the #1 building will be discussed and finalized at a special meeting next month.
Having the intern for the past year was a great help as so much more work had been accomplished. The Museum will again apply for an Intern for 2011-12.
The Museum will host a Heritage Day Luncheon on Saturday, Feb.19th at the Knox United Church from 11am to 1pm with a bake sale, door prizes and raffle.
On Saturday, March 19th, the museum will co-host with the Chapple Heritage Society a St. Patrick’s Dinner at the Barwick Hall. There will be a penny table, silent auction and entertainment.
Workshop report: The scrapbooking/card making workshop held on Jan. 29th was well attended and much enjoyed.
Rainy River Doctor Housing Report: JoAnn Moen reported that the committee is planning to build a duplex for the locums and medical students. The land has been decided upon and a building plan is being drawn up. Following her report, our members entered into a discussion on how the Women’s Institutes can help ie: fundraising ideas.
Our annual Spring Educational “Tea” will be held on March 9th at the Bergland Hall. We invite everyone to join us. Lunch is served at 12:30. The program this year will be Heart and Stroke After Care (support). The highlight of the day will be our Mystery Auction with all proceeds going to our Pioneer Museum in Emo.
The District Annual meeting is to be held on Wednesday, May 11th at the Museum with registration at 9:30am.
Our members will make and donate a quilt to the museum for their summer/fall raffle.
On Wednesday, March 30th, we will be providing activity/entertainment and “coffee time” at Rainy River Long Term Care - always an enjoyable afternoon.
