It was a stellar trip for both Rainy River High School Owls girls volleyball teams last Friday.
The Junior Owls went all the way to win NORWOSSA gold when they faced Sioux Lookout in the finals. They ended up winning 3-2. The scores were 16-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 15-6.
Unfortunately NORWOSSAs is as far as a junior team can go but hearty congratulations are in order!
For the Senior Owls several stars aligned over them to earn them a berth to NWOSSAS!
While finishing in second place, getting NORWOSSA silver, the top team was Kenora’s Thomas Aquinas. Because that team won silver at OFSSAs (All Ontarios) last year they had an automatic berth to it again. That means the team that won silver at NORWOSSAs would have another chance to advance. In addition to that honour they also get to host NWOSSAs! That will take place here this Thursday and Friday at RRHS. It will be the best of three, five game matches. The first match will be Thurs. at 5 p.m. The second will be Fri. at 9:30 a.m. and if necessary the final match will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The public is welcome to come and cheer for the Owls! If they win they will go to the All Ontarios in Bellville, Ont. Mar. 7-9.
The Owls will face Nipigon-Red Rock in NWOSSAs. Congratulations and good luck!
In NORWOSSA play the seniors won the semi-final game vs Sioux Lookout 3-1. The scores were 25-15, 25-13, 12-25 and 25-21.
They then faced Thomas Aquinas in the finals and lost 3-0. The scores were 8-25, 16-25 and 10-25.
