While the weather has been more spring like than wintery, it is Rainy River Lions Club annual Winter Carnival time!
This weekend the Lions club has put together a fun weekend for all ages starting with a snow sculpture contest on Friday.
Saturday the day begins with a free pancake breakfast. That is it is free if you have a carnival queen button!
Smoosh races will be held at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River Community Centre. What is a smoosh race you ask? It involves teams of four strapping their feet to 2x4 boards and racing in unison against other teams. Registration is at 9 a.m.
The always popular kids carnival games will be from 10 a.m. to Noon on the main floor of the Community Centre. There will also be free face painting at the same time.
A Jelly Bean jar contest will also be held at Rainy River True Value from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A kids ice fishing contest will be held at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Government Dock.
A centennial information and registration booth will be set up at the community centre from 12-4 p.m.
At 1 p.m. there will be Lions races.
At 2 p.m. there will be a smear tournament on the second floor of the community centre.
At 4 p.m. an 8 person tug-of-war will be held outside the community centre.
At 7 p.m. the Rainy River Figure Skating Club will be holding the first of two shows this weekend. Party on Ice is the theme. During the intermission of the first show the three queen contestants, Jocelyn Gosselin, Brianna Ewald and Santana King will march out on the red carpet to see who will be Lions Carnival Queen 2004-05 and the winning carnival queen button for $100 will be drawn.
On Sunday at 2 p.m. the Party On Ice second show will be held.
