Every competitor’s favourite colour is gold and for the second straight year, Courtney Hansen is bringing some home!
Last Wednesday, Rainy River High School Seniors Courtney Hansen, Justin Moen and Freshman Skylar Arpin, competed in NWOSSA badminton.
Hansen went 4-0 to win senior girls gold in singles and advance to the All Ontarios for the second year in a row. Last year she won a gold medal at the All Ontarios in the C-flight.
Moen went 1-3. Coach Guy Arpin said, “That record does not represent his level of play as he almost beat the top 2 players. The game against the eventual NWOSSAA Gold medalist (Dryden) went to 3. He won the first 21-18, then lost 19-21, 19-21. The game could have went either way. All of his games were like that. Although he is not advancing, a couple of breaks here and there and he was in."
Skylar Arpin, who could not advance at NWOSSAs played in an exhibition tournament and sported a 5-0 record. She is the NWOSSA jr. girls singles champ.
Hansen will compete at the All Ontarios in Aurora, Ont. May 12-14, 2011. Congrats to all players and good luck Courtney!
