The Morson Live Release Fishing Derby saw a reversal of fortune compared to previous years.
Usually Northern Pike and especially Perch are caught in abundance; usually more than walleye.
This year there were no Northern Pikes caught and only a handful of perch. Six people caught one perch. With the prize category being the most perch a draw for top prize was held. Stan Zajac, Terry Gill, Dillon Anderson, Adrian Dersluis, Desi Comegan and Len Clarke were tied and the winner of the $150 prize was Len Clarke.
With no Northern Pikes being caught the tournament organizers opted to add three more prizes to the walleye category.
The walleye seemed to be biting around noon. John King caught a beautiful 7.18 pounder to win $325. Not long after him, Irving Blight reeled up a 6.28 lb. walleye to take second prize of $250. Blight was using pink and white jigs with shiners for bait.
In third place was Brian Andy, Jr., with a 3.84 lb. walleye. He won $200.
In fourth was Amy Adams with a 3.6 lb. walleye. She won $150.
In fifth was John King with 3.54 lbs. He won $100.
In 6th was Rocky Olson with 3.48 lbs. He won $75.
The hidden weight was 1.45 lbs. Mark Brusven won a Rod and reel combo.
There was 173 people registered for the derby and the weather was perfect. There were 51 walleye caught and six perch.
