New birds on their way!
By Irene Hansen
RR Hosp. Aux.
Fourteen members came to set up for the Strawberry Social, which was held May 4th at the Legion. After all was ready, we had a Pizza luncheon at the Legion.
A brief meeting followed. The minutes of the last meeting were read and Dawn Jarvis gave our financial report. Both were accepted as read.
For Nurses appreciation week, it was decided we send 2 fruit trays, one for day shift, and one for the evening shift, with cards.
Carla Books gave a report on the Birds. She found a place in Winnipeg, where we can get them. It was decided we will get 8 male canaries, and Frank and Carla will transport them here. Carla will look after them for the coming year, but would really like to have someone come and help. Get in touch with her at 852-3217.
We will plant flowers at the hospital the first week of June.
Correspondence included a letter from Relay for Life, asking for support; and about the Graduation Scholarship. It was decided we will give $200 to Relay for Life, as well as some members participate, and will give our usual $400 scholarship to a student going on in the medical field.
This concluded our meeting; Dr. Singleton, arrived to give a presentation on the housing for locum doctors. It is suggested we build a duplex, basically 2 homes in one, as sometimes we may have more than one locum at a time. The housing would not be free. There will be rent involved. Also it would include 5 communities to work towards building this.
He stressed the need for locum doctors, to be able to keep up the advantages we have now, (i.e. 7/24 hr emergency, keeping the clinic fully staffed, etc). He also stated after Dr. Bellar leaves we will only have 1 1/2 full time doctors, as Dr. Chu prefers to only work 1/2 time.
He concluded with, "There are no guarantees, but at the end of the day we gave it our best."
The next meeting is a luncheon on June 7th. The phoning committee will tell you where. The cost is $10.00. Leave money at the Bake Shop be June 1st.
