Council goes on spending spree

Rainy River Town Council spent nearly $32,000 in about fifteen minutes Monday night on a variety of things.
The big items included: •$9,000 for the centennial committee’s operating budget this year
•Up to $10,000 in new computer equipment for the town hall.
•Up to $10,000 in renovations, including carpeting, painting and new work stations for the town hall.
•$1,000 was donated to defray the costs for last Saturday’s hazardous waste pick up in Rainy River.
•$978.40 was spent on 1,000 new town pins for the centennial.
Other business
•Citizen Wayne McCarthy asked council about the possibility of either expanding the existing museum or creating a new one. Acting Mayor Larry Armstrong recommended that McCarthy’s group meet with the property committee to discuss options.
•Council approved a no tipping fee week for citizens from May 24-31st to allow for spring cleaning of yards.
•Council congratulated two of its employees for job related achievements. Town Clerk Deb Bowman received her Certified Municipal Officer’s status.
Town Foreman Bob Jenson received his Class 3 Operator’s Licence for the Rainy River Water Treatment plant.
Both received a round of applause from all of council.
