Barring another flood, this year’s Canada Day celebrations will be held in Hannam Park, Rainy River.
The celebration of Canada’s 136th birthday will begin the evening of June 30th when the Rainy River Recreation Board and RR Volunteer Fire Department will co-host a street dance at the base of Main St. on the Government Dock plaza. It will feature music by “Kookin” and is open to minors. However, anyone under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and run until Midnight.
On July 1st, Canada Day, a bike parade from the RR Legion parking lot will be held at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to decorate their bikes and will ride them down Main St. to the park. It is sponsored by the Rainy River Lions Club.
Right after the parade family fun will begin with kids games and face painting being sponsored and run by the Rainy River Toy Library.
From Noon to 1 p.m. there will be free hotdogs, juice and ice cream sponsored by the RR and District Chamber of Commerce.
Also at Noon the canteen at the Government Dock will open, featuring food from the Border Gasthaus.
From 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be a beer garden in the park.
The day will wrap up with a spectacular bang as the fire department puts on their annual fireworks display which has been increased in size by 25% this year.
