The Stratton Memorial Tree project it growing.
Started three years ago by Moe and Joyce Henry, the project involves people purchasing a tree for $100 in memory of a person who has lived in Stratton at one time or another and has passed away.
The first year the Henrys were overwhelmed by the response. “We planted 42 trees that year,” said an enthusiastic Moe.
As of this week 72 trees have been planted, 20 of them just last week. Each tree has its own special tag that has the name of the person who it is in memory of.
Moe said that he has not done any soliciting to get people to buy the trees. It has just taken on a life of its own.
The idea came from Moe and Joyce wanting to see their community spruced up. Too date they have lined the recreation field south of the curling rink/Millennium Hall with trees and started another grove in the southeast corner of the recreation grounds in Stratton.
Moe is anticipating another rush for the centennial and he encourages people to call him if they want to plant a tree in memory of someone.
