Water level meeting this Friday in RR

Last year it was flooding and high water levels that the agencies that control the outflows on the Rainy Lake/Rainy River/Lake of the Woods waterways had to worry about. This year it is the exact opposite.
This Friday area citizens will get a chance to learn about the situation in person as the International Rainy Lake Board of Control and the International Rainy River Water Pollution Board hold a joint annual meeting in Rainy River from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Legion.
While levels on the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods have been low this year, the area of greatest concern this season has been the low level of Rainy Lake. This year emergency rule curves have had to be put in place to put outflows from that lake well below normal operating levels.
The public is welcome to attend the meeting in Rainy River Friday and bring questions for the officials. There will also be an evening meeting the night before in International Falls at the Holiday Inn at 6:30 p.m.
