The 7th Annual Morson Bass International fishing tournament will be the catch of the day this Saturday and Sunday!
It is is being held August 27-28th at the Morson Government Dock at the end of Highway 621.
This year the number of angler entries is similar to last year with room for more. 32 teams competed in the tourney last year! Anglers are encouraged to sign up before the rules meeting at 6:30 PM on Friday.
Thanks to the many fine sponsors, the committee is very pleased that the prize board will be similar to the past tournaments. Last year’s winners went home with more than $4,000 cash and prizes for their efforts. Top finishers go home with cash (percentage is based on total entries) and all are entered for other prizes drawn at the end of the tournament. In addition to money and prizes, the anglers receive a free supper at 6 PM Friday night before the rules meeting served by the Morson Women’s Institute.
Concession and beverage sales are available both Saturday and Sunday with all proceeds going to the Rainy River House. This will be another opportunity to see the project and to be informed about the need for suitable housing for locums and medical students.
There will be breakfast for sale each morning before the boats leave. There are also t-shirts, polo shirts, caps and other items for sale under the tent.
The tournament will also include a fish fry supper for $12 adults and $6 kids on Saturday starting at 5 PM will be served by the Morson Women’s Institute and free to participating anglers.
Another highlight of the tournament is the two day Silent Auction. Just some of the items donated include a Harmon Killebrew baseball jersey, collector knives, gift baskets, afghan, sporting goods, homemade preserves and handcrafted art. Friends and neighbors enjoy bidding against each other for the winning bid. There will also be a live auction similar to last year with one of the prizes being a houseboat trip.
There is a free kids fishing tournament held on the Morson Government Dock. Bring your kids 14 and under on Sunday to register at Noon to start fishing at 12:30. Please bring a Personal Floatation Device and fishing rod. Bait and tackle are provided. The kids fishing tournament is sponsored by the Bergland Friends of Recreation and the tournament. A goodie bag will be given to all of the participating kid anglers.
The 3rd annual Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire Department Shotgun Golf Scramble will also be held on Sunday. Those interested should call the Spruce Creek Golf Course with questions. To register call 807-488-9706. Golfers and non-golfers are encouraged to participate for this fund raising event. Top prize and prize draws available to participants.
This year’s tournament and community event should prove to be another great time at the end of Highway 621 under the big tent.
Volunteers are needed and asked to help raise the tent on Wednesday, August 24th at 5:30 PM.
