The first was to support an application for Local Initiatives Funds in the amount of $3,000 for signage on the new trails.
The next was for signing authority to complete the Ontario Trillium Foundation funding for the project.

54 cubic yards of asphalt paving at a cost of $22,547.16.
With the approval of funding the RR Community Trails Planning Team is pleased to announce work will soon begin on Phase 1 Community Multi-use Trails (non- motorized). It is hoped ground breaking will be after Labour Day.
Additional funding was also received from the Northwestern Health Unit and the Rainy River Future Development Corporation.
“RIVER TRAILS” will feature the Rainy River along with points of interest including a portion of main street and local businesses, Riverside Health Care, Hannam Park, local schools, the Community Garden and the Mill Yard which will house the Greenway Path.
The trail head will be located at Heritage Square near the Travel Information Center, Railway Museum, the Farmers Market and the Town Office.
The route takes users down a portion of Main Street then approaches the Rainy River at the end of Sixth. St. The trail continues along the river from Sixth. St, through Hannam Park heading east, past the Heritage House, and reaches Mill Ave.
The path travels east through the beautiful wooded lots just south of Mill Ave., crosses over to the Community Garden area, and meanders through the Mill Yard for a greenway experience! It then continues to the laneway on the south side of businesses and homes along Hwy 11.
"We plan to get the paved part of the trail complete this fall, which is the waterfront and the berm. We will be working hard to complete the rest of the trail system this fall. We are developing 1.8km of trail. The phase 1 trail will be a total of 4.2km in length," said committee member Meghan Shanks.
The planning team is excited to begin preparing trail surfaces, designing and installing appropriate signage and most importantly utilizing the community’s River Trails!
With actual trail development beginning in early September the committee would like to encourage all community members that indicated that they could help and volunteer in some way to please contact Meghan Shanks at the Recreation Center 852-4446 or Heidi at the Northwestern Health Unit 852-3268
