No parking! Town restricts parking for safety reasons
Ken Johnston
That will be the case on all of 6th St, River Ave. West and Main St. starting on Thursday and running until Monday. No parking will be allowed on 5th St. in the 100 block and on Mill Ave. from 5th to Main St.
On Saturday morning there will be no parking on Broadway Ave. from Main to 1st Streets to allow for the disbursement of parade floats.
On the rest of the streets parking will only be allowed on the west side of streets and the north side of avenues. People are reminded not to block fire hydrants.
Centennial Coordinator Gord Armstrong said that the reason for the parking restrictions is safety based. “If all the streets are congested how would fire trucks, ambulances or other emergency vehicles get in or out if there was an emergency.”
The town has secured several areas away from the streets for parking and has shuttles available to take people to and from the parking to various key venues. Parking will be allowed at the MTO yard, across the tracks and the north end of the old mill yard.
“Everything will be signed and the rules will be enforced,” said Armstrong.
