Council to suspend bonding by-law for locum house
Town council met for a special meeting on Monday night to discuss the “Locum House Bonding Requirements”
They voted on suspending the Acquisition of Goods and Services By-law 1442-04, section 5.12.1 which states “Performance, Labour and Materials and/or Maintenance Bonds are required for all construction projects exceeding $100,000.00 for a minimum of 50% of the bid amount” during the tendering process for the Rainy River Locum House.
This “will encourage local contractors to particpate in the bidding process."
The contract documents will allow for both progress payments and holdback amounts which are deemed a sufficient guarantee of the workmanship.” The result of the councilors vote was not available at press time.
Water rate issue
After several requests and inquiries to the council of the Town of Rainy River about the high price of water and sewer rates, Gayla MacMillan feels like she has finally received the answer she was hoping for.
In a letter addressed to MacMillian on Oct 13 it states that “The issues that you brought forward have been taken into serious consideration and further investigation is taking place in this regard. Another municipality has been contacted regarding their newly installed water and sewer metering system. Their advice will be sought for the possible implementation of a similar system in Rainy River.”
